KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Ruparelia
Foundation, in collaboration with the North Indian Cultural Association of
Uganda (NICA-U), has launched a free eye care camp in Kamuli District, in
Uganda's Eastern Region.
Another partner in this camp is Dr. Agarwals Hospital, one of
Uganda's worldwide famous eye facilities.
The eye camp will commence on August 20, 2022, and will conclude
on August 21, 2022. It takes place at Shree Hindu Bhangini Samaji, 4-19
Crawford Avenue.
This camp's activities will include eye exam, cataract surgery,
free glasses, and a blood donation.
According to the Ministry of Health's 2021 report, 2.5 million
Ugandans had both moderate and severe eye-related disabilities, with around
150,000 completely blind (0.4 percent ).
Eye problems are one of the top ten causes of morbidity and
outpatient (OPD) attendance, according to the Ministry of Health's management
information system (HMIS).
Cataracts are responsible for 57.1 percent of blindness in Uganda,
according to the Ministry of Health, whereas uncorrected refractive errors are
the most prevalent cause of visual impairments.
Cataracts, primary open-angle glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy,
refractive errors, poor vision, retinoblastoma, conjunctivitis, foreign body of
the eye, keratitis, neonatal conjunctivitis, trachoma, and eye traumas are
among the 17 prevalent or priority eye problems in Uganda.
More than 253 million individuals worldwide are visually impaired,
with 124 million having poor vision and 36 million blind.
The Ruparelia Foundation was founded in 2012 by Dr Sudhir and Mrs
Jyotsna Ruparelia and operates under the slogan "Enriching Lives
Together."
For the last 10 years, the Foundation has collaborated with a
variety of stakeholders to support good change in many communities around
Uganda in order to enhance livelihoods.
The foundation has supported over 700 charitable initiatives to
far.
The foundation's priority areas include health care, education,
sports, wildlife and environmental protection, disaster assistance, business,
and general welfare.
Ruparelia Foundation tries to make a good and transformational
influence in the community by making a meaningful difference in the current
day, but it also has a long-term plan for each effort undertaken.
