Museveni expresses satisfaction with Speke Resort Convention Center progress as construction nears completion.

Saturday, and was especially pleased with the outstanding development of the state-of-the-art Speke Convention Centre at Munyonyo. The vast multibillion-dollar conference facility is now 90% complete, barely two months before the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Group of 77 (G-77), as well as the China Third South summits.

The summit, which is slated to take place between January 15 and 23, 2024, under the subject "Deepening cooperation for shared global affluence," with the Third South Summit concentrating on "Leaving no one behind," is part of the country's new leadership responsibilities.

While inspecting Speke Resort Munyonyo and other developments in Kampala and Entebbe, H.E. Yoweri Museveni said that holding these summits would give a platform for global collaboration and solidarity, as well as the advancement of shared objectives.

Mr. Museveni, wearing his iconic white hat and accompanied by his daughter Natasha Karugire, embarked on a guided tour on Saturday alongside city businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, whose Ruparelia Group has entered into a partnership with the government of Uganda to build such a multibillion-dollar infrastructure.

As the president walked over the huge expanse of the site, the buzz of equipment and the rhythmic beats of building rang through the air.

The landscape was framed by towering beams and the skeleton construction of what would eventually be a cutting-edge convention facility. The president, renowned for his attention to detail, answered questions, interacting with the brains behind the project and learning about the development process.

The President praised Sudhir's devotion and hard work in turning a concept into an actual reality in a short speech to the assembled gathering.

"This Convention Center is a symbol of progress and potential for our city, not just a testament to architectural prowess." "It will be a gathering place for ideas, a place for collaboration, and a source of pride for all citizens," Museveni remarked.

The president's happiness increased morale not just on the building site, but across the city. The Convention Center, once a vision on paper, now stood as a physical witness to development, with the last 11% of the project yet to be completed, promising a big inauguration that would reverberate well beyond the construction barriers.

The sophisticated multifunctional convention center features amenities such as high-end conference meeting rooms and a 4,000-seater auditorium, according to Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, chairman of the Ruparelia Group of Companies, under whom Speke Group of Hotels belongs.
