Over 1800 people get free treatment at the Ruparelia Foundation's Kamuli Eye Camp.

Thousands of eye sufferers from Kamuli and neighbouring districts received free treatment over the weekend at an eye medical camp organised by the Ruparelia Foundation as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in the Eastern region.

The two-day event, which took place from August 20 to 21, was hosted at Shree Bhavin Samala Street in Kamuli municipality, where recipients received free eye care treatments like as exams, eyeglasses, and cataract procedures, among other things.

According to the organisers, between Saturday and Sunday, 1,810 individuals were evaluated, 143 operations were performed, and around 1,000 eyeglasses were distributed across the camp.

Mrs. Jyostna Ruparelia, a Kamuli district resident and the wife of businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, praised the people of Kamuli and the patients for coming in huge numbers to get free treatment in her comments.

She also praised her husband, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, for always being there for her when she organises events like this to help individuals and communities.

Ms. Jyostna Ruparelia, on behalf of the foundation, vowed to help the school by upgrading several classroom blocks, supplying academic supplies, library books, and computer accessories during the visit to Kamuli township primary school.

Sudhir's daughter, Ms. Sheena Ruparelia, one of the camp's organisers, said that although this is the third eye camp held by the Ruparelia Foundation, it is the first one held outside of Kampala.

She praised Kamuli's local administration for providing them permission to hold the medical camp, as well as all of the sponsors and partners, such as physicians, who helped make it a success.

Ms. Rebecca Kadaga, the First Deputy Prime Minister and former Speaker of Parliament, who was among the high-profile visitors at the camp, urged the health ministry to examine Kamuli area for additional eye experts.

Her request came after a series of reports of a large number of eye-related ailments in the area. The number of eye experts, according to the district health officer, is minimal in comparison to the number of patients they see.

Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, Abacus Parental Drug Limited, SSDM Temple, Rwenzori Bottling Company Ltd, Euroflex Ltd (Eurofoam), Pearl Dairy Farms Ltd (Lato milk), Harris International (Riham), and Rotary Clubs of Jinja and Nsangi all contributed to the Ruparelia Foundation Free Eye Medical Camp.

The foundation continues to invite others to join and support this noble cause in order to build a better world with a better vision for Ugandans.
