A medical eye camp is being organised by the Ruparelia Foundation in the Kamuli area. The programme will be held at the Shree Hind Bhavin Samal for two days. Beginning on Saturday, the camp will provide free eye exams, treatments, glasses, and cataract surgery.
Cataracts generate 57% of blindness cases in the country, according to Dr. Susan Kikira, a consultant ophthalmologist, and uncorrected refractive errors are the most common cause of visual impairment. Based on this medical history, more than 2000 persons with various eye disorders are predicted to show up in the Kamuli area.
The North Indian Cultural Association (NICA) has also contributed significantly to the cause, which aims to provide free eye health care to the residents of Kamuli and the adjacent areas. The organisation has previously held medical eye camps in Kampala, according to Sheena Ruparelia, Director of Ruparelia Group, but the Kamuli edition is unique since it is taking place in the town where the foundation's co-founder, Jyotsna Ruparelia, was born and nurtured.
“It warms my heart to give back to the community where I grew up,” Jyotsna Ruparelia remarked.
The most recent one drew 4,032 persons for screening; 275 cataract procedures were performed; and 422 reading glasses and 180 prescription glasses were supplied to those in desperate need of corrective eyewear.
Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, Abacus Parental Drug Limited, SSDM Temple, Rwenzori Bottling Company Ltd, Euroflex Ltd (Eurofoam), Pearl Dairy Farms Ltd (Lato milk), and Harris International were among the many partners that provided significant assistance (Riham). The Rotary Clubs of Jinja and Nsangi have also made significant contributions.
